High School Options for RBMS Students

What Will Next Year Look Like for My Child?

This morning, representatives from Bunker Hill High, Challenger Early College High, Hickory Career & Magnet, and Discovery High Schools came to talk to Pirate 8th graders about options for next school year. Below are some details about these organizations and how they differ from one another along with contact information and important dates.

Traditional School

Bunker Hill High School is a considered a traditional high school, meaning that students will take a set number of courses in a variety of subjects working towards a diploma while on a four-block daily schedule. Bunker Hill offers athletic programs all three seasons of the year, in addition to clubs and organizations like marching band and JROTC. In conjunction with CVCC, students can take college courses in welding, electrical, and general courses (English, Western Civ, Math, etc.).

Please see this video to see what school is like at Bunker Hill.

Alternate High Schools

There are three alternate high schools in Catawba County to which RBMS students may apply if they would like to see different options. Each of the current schools systems in Catawba offers an alternate school, also called magnet schools because they draw from other districts. Catawba County Schools offers Challenger Early College High School, whereas Hickory Public Schools has HCAM (Hickory Career & Arts Magnet), and Newton-Conover has Discovery High School STEM School.

Please review this presentation from these schools to see what offerings they have and which one might best serve your child if they want to see a different route than the traditional one.
